Start a Pool Project in the Fall | Here’s why

If you want to enjoy your backyard by spring, the smartest thing you can do is start a pool project in fall. Fall offers the ideal window to design, plan, and begin construction, so your outdoor space is complete when the warm weather returns. At Ashton Pools by Design, we believe your backyard should be more than just space, it should reflect your lifestyle. Whether you envision a custom pool, a fully integrated spa, a Bullfrog® Spa for hydrotherapy, or a complete outdoor kitchen, we create spaces that bring beauty, comfort, and connection to your everyday life.
But here’s something many homeowners don’t realize:
If you want to enjoy your backyard by next summer, you need to get started in the fall.
What Happens Before Construction
Designing a custom outdoor space involves much more than selecting materials or choosing features. Before construction can begin, several important steps must be completed — and they can take time, depending on where you live and the requirements in your area.
Property surveys and site evaluations (Currently 6-8 weeks)
Each project begins with a detailed evaluation of your property. This helps determine layout, elevation, drainage, and how best to integrate your pool or outdoor features into the landscape.
HOA approvals (if applicable) – minimum of 30 days
If you live in a community with a homeowners association, submitting plans and gaining approval is often required before moving forward. This can add time to the pre-construction phase.
Municipal permitting and inspections – anywhere from a week to 60 days
Every town or county has its own permitting process. While our team handles this for you, the timeline is largely dictated by local agencies. Depending on your location, this stage alone can take 2 to 4 months.
While Ashton Pools by Design manages the entire process in-house, these initial steps are governed by third parties, and they simply take time.
Beginning your project in the fall ensures we can complete the planning and approvals efficiently so you are swimming by Memorial Day.

What Does Your Dream Backyard Include?
Whether your ideal space is built around entertaining, relaxation, or family connection, we’ll help you bring that vision to life.
Your custom backyard may include:
- Concrete (gunite) or fiberglass pools, designed specifically for your property and how you plan to use it
- Custom spas, fully integrated into your poolscape or patio layout — seasonal, three-season, or year-round, depending on your preferences
- Bullfrog® Spas, for those seeking powerful, customizable hydrotherapy in a stand-alone luxury format
- Patios and walkways with durable, elegant hardscaping
- Outdoor kitchens, grilling stations, and bars for effortless entertaining
- Fire features, waterfalls, rain curtains, and custom lighting
- Landscaping, fencing, and sod installation, fully coordinated with your design
If you’re building from the ground up or transforming your existing space, our team begins by understanding how you want to live outdoors — and designs every detail to support that lifestyle.

Why You Should Start a Pool Project in Fall, Not Spring
Many homeowners assume that spring is the best time to start a pool — but by then, it maybe already too late to enjoy it the same year.
Spring brings high demand for permits, labor, materials, and schedules. Waiting until then may push your project’s completion well into the following season. Starting in the fall allows the necessary planning, approvals, and early construction steps to be completed without stress.
It’s not just about starting early — it’s about starting smart.
Start Now to Be Ready By Spring
Your backyard isn’t just a space, it’s a reflection of how you want to live.
Whether that means pool parties with friends, quiet mornings/evenings in the spa, grilling on your patio, or relaxing by the fire, it all begins with one step: planning ahead.
By starting now, you’re giving yourself the time, and the partnership to create something truly exceptional.
